Nearly 10 years before the 1997 live action film released, Sunrise and Bandai Visual produced a six-episode Anime adaptation of Robert  Heinlein’s Starship Troopers. This series followed the novel closer than the 1997 adaptation structurally and thematically. However, more importantly...there’s the POWER ARMOR!

A major complaint from fans of the novel to the 1997 live action was the lack of Power Armor, which was a major pull for science fiction fans. In the 1988 anime the power armor looks like classic anime mechs from the era and it really works for the story.

It’s by far not the best anime ever, but if you didn’t like the departure the American animated series (Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles) or the live action film franchise took from the novel, give this series a whirl. It's quick and easy; there’s 6 episodes at about 20 minutes each. They’ve never been releases stateside, but are available of YouTube here.
