These are some great trailers that could stand on their own as horror shorts. A lot of these feature footage that was only shot for the trailer, which is great for a horror movie because you have no idea what to expect or who will survive the film. Take a look at some trailers that zero in on audience’s dread and phobias to get them packing into the theater!

  • Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warrior 1987
Often described as the best of the Elm Street sequels, Kristen Parker is placed in a hospital psychiatric ward with six other troubled teens, who all dream about the same horrible Freddy Krueger trying to kill them. #Trailer #WB
  • Magic 1978
A pretty creepy movie trailer from the 1978 Movie, "Magic" by Joseph E. Levine. The Puppet, "Fats" presents this terrifying love story which scared some if not many kids then. To me, it was weird rather than creepy.
  • Suspiria 1977
Trailer for Dario Argento's SUSPIRIA - One of the most beautiful horror films ever made!
  • The Shining 1980
All work and no play makes Academy Award-winner Jack Nicholson ("As Good As It Gets," "Batman"), the caretaker of an isolated resort, go way off the deep end, terrorizing his young son and wife Shelley Duvall ("Roxanne").
  • Exorcist 1973
OSCAR WINNER:Best Screenplay AdaptationBest SoundNominated for 10 Academy Awards, including "Best Picture," The Exorcist was controversial and extremely popular from the moment it opened in 1973.This is the frightening and realistic tale of an innocent girl (Oscar-nominated Linda Blair) inhabited by a terrifying entity, her mother's frantic resolve to save her (Ellen Burstyn in her own Oscar-nominated performance) and two priests - one doubt-ridden, the other a rock of faith - who come together in a battle of ultimate evil.
  • An American Werewolf in London 1981
David Naughton, Jenny Agutter, Griffin Dunne DIrected by John Landis
  • Black Christmas 1974
AKA: "Silent Night, Evil Night" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071222/?ref_=ttrel_rel_tt
  • Blair Witch Project 1999
Fan-Made trailer using actual footage from the official teasers. Instead of uploading two similar videos, I made my own personal cut. "In October of 1994, three student film makers disappeared in the woods near Burkittesville, Maryland. One year later, their footage was found." Directed by: Daniel Myrick & Eduardo Sánchez.

What do you think? Are there any we missed? Didn't trailers used to be pretty kick ass? We want to know. Share your thoughts and feelings in the comments section below, and as always, remember to viddy well!
