Case Of The Mondays: Unwind With One Of These

July 24, 2017  /  Aaron Haughton

Article by Aaron Haughton

Need to unwind after a tough day? We got you. Sit back, kick your dogs up and enjoy one of these new release titles now available for rent. We know how draining the grind can be, so we've made it easy for you.

Below, we've broken our recommendations down by genre and linked you to our full write-ups, so you can easily reference more information, if needed. All of these titles can be picked up on your commute home from your local video store (if you have one; "What are THOSE?!), or on-demand via Amazon or iTunes, etc.

Giant Monster:

Wanna be in awe of some truly extraordinary beasts? Check out these titles:

  • Kong: Skull Island

With some really stunning visuals, this giant monster flick is a popcorn blast. After you see the film, check up our full write-up on the top five things you (probably) didn't know about the film here.

  • Colossal

Colossal totally bends the giant monster genre, flipping it on its ear in very delightful and surprising ways. You can check out our review here.

Horror:

Wanna shit your pants and cry for your momma? Check out these titles:

  • Raw

Raw is a singular coming-of-age story that uses body horror and cannibalism as a device to heighten the thematics. It goes without saying that you should let your food settle before giving this one a chance, but it's one of the most unique films you'll see all year. Full write-up here.

  • Get Out

Jordan Peele's standout social thriller Get Out doesn't just pack a punch, but is one of the most entertainingly exciting films to hit the big screen this year. Full write-up here.

Comedy:

In need of a laugh? Check out one these titles, but just make sure to, you know, not piss your pants because you're a goddamned adult for chrissakes...

  • Free Fire

Guns are blazing in this gun-deal-gone-wrong comedy. Full review here.

  • T2: Trainspotting

It's a comedy/drama "about people," says contributor Jake Bottiglieri. Check out his extensive analysis here.

Action:

In need of some action? Of course you are, you dope -- you work in a boring office, or do something else you discuss with your friends in a dispassionate tone. Get your action fix with one of these:

  • Logan

Wolverine finally goes full-bore adult, and it's wonderfully compelling, albeit a lil sad. Check out the review here.

  • Split

Hey, look! It's an M. Night Shyamalan film that doesn't suck complete ass sack! Fans of Unbreakable will be pleasantly surprised by this one, and should get amped for the forthcoming Unbreakable tie-in; just please god, Shyamalan, don't fuck it up! Full review here.

Adventure:

In need of adventure? Of course you are, dummy! You know your life is boring and that you'll never venture too far. So, let this film take you on a trip:

  • Lost City of Z

Based on a true story, this film is a compelling and mildly poetic trip to the Amazon. Full review here.
