Top 10: Stoner Comedies

Whether you're a full-blown pothead, a casual partaker, or a square who simply enjoys the power of laughter, we've compiled our favorite stoner comedies of all time. Be sure to share your thoughts and feelings with us in the comments section below.

  • 10: Reefer Madness

So, we're going O.G. here with Reefer Madness. It's essentially the first stoner comedy ever made; although, that wasn't it's intended purpose. The film was crafted as a piece of anti-marijuana propaganda way back in 1936. In a case of pot versus propaganda, Reefer Madness falls against the very substance it wanted to dissuade. Spark up a marijuana cigarette and get crazy, kiddos.

  • 9: Friday

Awww yeah, it's Friday! We love this stoner comedy set in the hood. It has truly memorable characters and one-liners. Our personal favorite being John Witherspoon as Ice Cube's father. Don't nobody go in there for about 30 - 45 minutes. That's because it smells like Dank Commander in there...

  • 8: Half Baked

Dave Chapelle's stoner opus isn't perfect, but it is a lotta blazed up fun. Ultimately, it's a story about the importance of friendship and growing up. Oh yeah, and booty. Of course there's a plethora of weed and weed induced hysteria. As the movie promises: it'll give you the munchies.

  • 7: Grandma's Boy

Grandma's Boy was praised upon release, but instantly became a cult classic. It also may be one of the last good films that Sandler's Happy Madison Productions ever put out. This movie still makes us keel over with laughter.

  • 6: Fast Times at Ridgemont High

One word: Spicoli, bro! Oh fuck, that was two. Damn it, stoned...

  • 5: Super Troopers

The opening of Super Troopers is cemented as one of the greatest openings of a comedy, repurposing the classically mysterious Willie Wonka line, The snozberries taste like snozberries. There We're eager to see how they follow it up with Super Troopers 2

  • 4: Pineapple Express

Everything Seth Rogen does is steeped in pot, but Pineapple Express may be his magnum ode to reefer. This film was one of the first to combine gut busting laughs with heavy action in a contemporary sense, something that's become overly saturated in the genre, mostly thanks to asshats like Paul Feig, but calls back to action buddy comedies like 48 Hours and Beverly Hills Cop. This film will take you places. Grab a cross joint and hop on the pineapple express.

  • 3: Big Lebowski

While this one isn't a stoner comedy flat out, the Dude is definitely 420 friendly, which affects his decision making in this comedic romp of a Coen Brothers Neo-Noir. Pour another White Russian, fire up a J, and, fuck it, let's go bowling. The Dude abides.

  • 2: Dazed and Confused

All right, All right, All right...

  • 1: Up In Smoke

Giving it to the king's here: Cheech and Chong. This film opened up a lot of doors for films to come and cemented the stoner comedy as a viable genre. There are so many great gags that transpire in this film, from the opening to the battle of the bands finale. The film is so steeped in pot, you'll get a contact high, if you weren't already high before, that is.
