Schrader Sets His Sights On The Western Genre
According to a tweet from Erick Weber, from Awards Ace, the iconoclastic film titan Paul Schrader is following up his late-career masterpiece (and our favorite film of 2018), First Reformed, with a western. That’s right, a WESTERN!
This marks the first time in Schrader’s career that he’s tackled the genre, but as he’s continuously proved over the years, he’s more than capable to take it on. The only question is, is the genre ready for Schrader?!
As you can see above, the title (at least, as of now) is Nine Men From Now, and Schrader will be bringing on First Reformed lead, Ethan Hawke, and frequent collaborator Willem Dafoe to the project.
The project has yet to receive an official announcement, but with the talent involved and with Schrader behind the wheel, this makes Nine Men From Now one of our most anticipated films of the coming years. Given Schrader’s success with First Reformed, which was distributed by the phenomenal A24, we’re hoping that they also re-team, giving Schrader the necessary funding to make his western a reality.
Since Schrader appears to be deep in the writing process, it would seem that he’s not going to pause to drink in his recent success, opting instead to keep the momentum flowing into the next project. Well, we want you to hit us with everything you got, Schrader, and as hard as you can!
What do you think? Are you stoked about Schrader’s choice to do a western?! We want to know. Share your thoughts and feelings in the comments section below, and be sure to stay in the Viddy Well loop...because an untied knot is just a string!
