Sandler Teams Up With Safdie Brothers
Article by Aaron Haughton
After transforming Robert Pattinson in last year's knockout crime thriller Good Time, Benny and Josh Safdie hope to do the same for Adam Sandler. Announced by Deadline on April 3rd, Sandler has signed on to star in the Safdie's next project, Uncut Gems, which will also be distributed by the phenomenal, do-no-wrong A24. Sandler is allegedly replacing Jonah Hill, who was previously attached to the project but had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts.
The details of the plot have been kept under lock and key; however, we do know the film's set in New York City’s diamond district and that the script was penned by the Safdies and their longtime collaborator Ronald Bronstein.
Sandler received rave reviews for his role in Noah Baumbach’s “The Meyerowitz Stories” last fall, which earned him a Gotham Award nomination for Best Actor. The prospect of Sandler working with the Safdies has us hoping for another transformative performance from the performer, a la PT Anderson's 2002 masterpiece Punch-Drunk Love.
To make the project even more exciting, Martin Scorsese is set to executive produce. Scott Rudin and Eli Bush will also produce the film. This has the foundation to be a really remarkable film, so here's hoping that it's as tight and well crafted as their past two endeavors.
