Oats Studios: Firebase
Article by Aaron Haughton
Oh, yeah! Blomkamp's Oats Studios strikes again! This time with Firebase, another sci-fi soldier/war short, this time taking the form of an even more twisted and deranged Vietnam. If you can believe that.
The imagery and special effects are even stronger and more brutal than Volume 1; however, the story elements, are even more narratively sparse. In fact, Firebase feels like an incredibly good first act that leads up to something epic that we're deprived of. Sounds like a bit of a cop out, but what can you really complain about when what you're seeing is free? Not much, especially when the film's 26 minutes is riddled with gems like this:
If you like the film and the productions that Oats is pumping out, you can be a part of the greatness. You can donate to the studio here, or, if you're less altruistic and want something to have in return, you can purchase the downloadable content via Steam here, which may contain extras or more footage not included in the YouTube film.
If donating ain't your bag, you can always just watch the film for free below. Get cozy for this one though -- you're in for a fucking trip!
What did you think of the special effects? Is the back of your head still attached? Are you ready for more? Share your thoughts and feelings in the comments section below, and, as always, remember to viddy well!
