Jim Carrey Set To Face Trial
Article by Aaron Haughton
The multi-talented Jim Carrey has become entangled with a nasty lawsuit over the death of his ex-girlfriend, Cathriona White, who passed away in September of 2015 of a self-inflicted overdose, a combination of Percocet, Ambien and Propranolol, found with the heartbreaking suicide note: I'm not for this world.
White's mother, Brigid Sweetman, along with her ex-husband, Mark Burton, are spearheading the lawsuit under the allegation that Carrey obtained these prescription bills illegally -- purportedly under the pseudonym "Arthur King" -- unknowing of White's history of depression and past suicide attempt, which triggered her overdose. To add insult to injury, Sweetman and Burton are also accusing Carrey of giving White three different sexually transmitted diseases during their relationship, which he then "pressured her to cover up."
While the coroner officially ruled White's death a suicide, the judge (Judge Deirdre Hill) has not budged on an any ask for dismissal, setting a court date for April of next year, which is rumored to last 20 days before reaching a verdict.
Carrey is denying these allegations, regarding them as "malicious" and "predatory." In a statement to the press, Carrey stated: “What a terrible shame. It would be easy for me to get in a back room with this man’s lawyer and make this go away, but there are some moments in life when you have to stand up and defend your honor against the evil in this world." Adding: “I will not tolerate this heartless attempt to exploit me or the woman I loved.”
