Red Alert: Lynch Is Not Out Of The Cinema Game
Article by Aaron Haughton
Fans were heartbroken at the news that David Lynch was out of the cinema game early this month; however, that may not be the case. I mean, as is the case with the beloved TV phenomena Twin Peaks, the end may not truly signify the end, right?
Earlier today while attending the Cannes Film Festival, Lynch told this to Le Soir magazine: "No, my remarks have been misrepresented. I did not say I quit cinema. Simply that nobody knows what the future holds."
I'm sure this may come as a relief to many, but Lynch's outlook on the direction cinema has taken so far is well documented. Just take a gander at this classic clip from 2008:
For the record, we never truly thought Lynch was out of the game, but rather that he's told all the stories he wanted to tell. And, you have to respect him for pulling out before he snubbed his name too badly, like so many filmmakers tend to do. But, if Lynch wants to make another film, it'd gladly be welcomed -- the critical acclaim the third season of Twin Peaks goes to prove that his one of a kind visions haven't been forgotten and a majority of us are still wanting more.
What do you think? Will Lynch make another feature length film? Do you think he's run out of narrative fuel? Is the whole "quitting cinema, just kidding not quitting cinema" dumb as hell? Share your thoughts and feelings in the comments section below, and as always, remember to viddy well.
